1. Have an emergency kit
Sometimes, emergencies happen, and the cold can exasperate that. With a winter-ready kit, you can ensure that you have the proper supplies to handle getting stuck or something else. In your emergency kit, you should have a flashlight, first-aid kit, and jumper cables. It is also a good idea to keep a blanket and nonperishable foods.

GMC Silverado

General Motors announced near the end of 2021 Ultra Cruise, a new revolutionary step forward in giving drivers a real hands-free experience.

Ultra Cruise is a revolutionary new technology, as GM takes the next step towards automating 95 percent of all driving scenarios. GM vehicles will eventually use ultra Cruise on every paved road in the US and Canada.

GM claims Ultra Cruise will cover more than 2 million miles at launch, which is definitely a usable driver aid, although it isn’t covering all roads yet. The hands-free driver’s technology will coexist in the existing lineup, with Super Cruise relegated to the main lineup of vehicles. At the same time, Ultra Cruise will be reserved for the more premium lineup.

What’s the difference between Ultra Cruise and Super Cruise?

The short of the matter is that Ultra Cruise will bring the highway-only hands-free experience of Super Cruise to local roads and city streets. This exciting technology will mean your GM vehicle will drive itself significantly more of the time than was previously possible with Super Cruise.

What makes this possible is the Ultra Cruise’s LiDAR system, which works in tandem with cameras and sensors around the vehicle which “sees” the environment as it drives. That means that Ultra Cruise will be capable of reacting to traffic signals, posted speed limits, and avoiding objects. In addition, GM claims it can park in driveways and complete lane changes.

Like Super Cruise, Ultra Cruise uses the steering-wheel-mounted lightbar to alert drivers of its system’s status. It also monitors the driver with the onboard camera system to ensure drivers are ready to take control of the vehicle if required.

What are the current limitations?

Although Ultra Cruise is more than capable technology, there are still a few limitations to the hands-free driver technology.

Construction zones requiring lane shifts, multi-lane roundabouts, and strange roadway anomalies can confuse the driver technology. Four-way stop intersections that need drivers to make eye contact or hand signals can also be a challenge for the Ultra Cruise.

Inclement weather is also rumored to be a difficult challenge for the system.

Whenever Ultra Cruise comes into a situation it doesn’t know how to handle; it may alert the driver to take temporary control. GM calls this a “non-urgent escalation” instead of an emergency in which the driver has to make a sudden maneuver to avoid damage or extreme danger.

If the driver doesn’t respond, the system will bring the vehicle to a safe stop.

GM’s Ultra Cruise is a huge step forward in driverless technology, even with these limitations. It is poised to significantly impact the way drivers navigate highways in the US and Canada.

Is GM’s Ultra Cruise technology Level 3 autonomous driving? No. Is it a huge step forward in driverless technology? Absolutely. GM’s Ultra Cruise technology will be a huge step forward in making the driving experiences safer and more convenient. It gives buyers even more reason to consider a GM vehicle as their next purchase.

The winter months are hard on cars. Cold temperatures, dirt, and road-salt residue can all cause a wide variety of issues ranging from cosmetic to functional. Winterizing your car is a great way to protect it against many of these, provided you go about it the right way.

Why Is Winterizing Your Car Important?

There are several reasons to winterize your car. One is that it can prevent damage that results from cold-weather exposure. Road-salt runoff can cause corrosion in the engine bay, as well as under the chassis-which means that any exposed metal parts are subject to rust and pitting. In addition, if your vehicle isn’t driven as often it can suffer from reduced lubrication which, over time, can cause damage to the engine.

Similarly, low temperatures make for challenging operating conditions. When the temperature drops, the engine could have issues starting up as cold-start conditions limit your car’s ability to vaporize the fuel. On top of this, icy roads and reduced visibility dramatically increase the likelihood of accidents without proper preparation.

How To Winterize Your Car

Winterizing is a general term that describes the process of getting a car ready for the cold, winter months. With that being said, the process isn’t one-size-fits-all. How you go about winterizing your car will depend on the kind of vehicle you drive, how old it is, and where you live. Still, there are a few common practices that have a huge impact on safety and damage reduction during the winter months:

Installing Winter Wipers

Winter wipers are essential for removing the mud and salt from your car’s windshield. They’re usually larger, more durable, and able to remove ice from your windshield in seconds.

Installing Winter Tires

When winter weather hits, it’s sometimes hard to tell if roads have been salted or not. Driving on a bare road is a lot safer than driving a road that has a layer of snow or ice visible on top of it. Installing winter tires keeps you safe by providing better traction on slippery surfaces than all-season tires would provide. In case you’re not convinced, a Canadian study recently found that universal adoption of winter tires reduces winter traffic accidents by 5%.

Getting Your Fluids Checked and Filled

Cold weather makes for challenging conditions under the hood of your car, so it’s important to check and fill your fluids before the winter weather hits. One common winter-time fluid issue is leakage. If you see signs of leakage on the ground underneath your car, that means that your coolant (usually green or orange in color) has frozen solid thanks to temperature deprivation. Similarly, oil can become thicker in cold-weather months lose some of its lubricating ability if not changed beforehand. It’s important to address these issues before they become major problems.

Checking and Replacing Your Battery

Most batteries for cars simply aren’t designed to handle the cold. That means that without pre-winter maintenance, your car could die at the moment when you least expect it.

You can check and replace your battery yourself if you have the tools and knowledge required. Otherwise, take it to your local auto shop and let them do it for you so you don’t damage anything.

Investing In an Emergency Kit

An emergency kit for your car can make all the difference when you get stranded. This should include at least one full-size spare tire, a handful of ice scrapers, fluid containers (including windshield washer fluid), jumper cables, and a flashlight with batteries.

Winterizing Your Car Is Important for Preventing Damage

There are several reasons why it’s important to invest in winterizing your car. Primarily, it helps prevent damage from the cold weather that most drivers deal with during the winter months. By investing in a few supplies and doing regular maintenance, you’re reducing the chances of costly – or downright dangerous – issues popping up.

Oftentimes as a business owner, you’ll need to have a fleet of vehicles. This could be for a number of reasons. The service you may be providing could be directly related to vehicles. Or, you might need them for your employees’ usage. If you’ve got a new business, you’ll need to save as much as you can to break even. This is where the Business Elite fleet programs come in handy.

They’re useful because of the following:

Service Benefits

What does the usual vehicle purchase offer apart from the vehicle? Not much apart from the regular and powertrain warranties. But buying a Business Elite fleet of vehicles puts you in a different seat altogether. This is because you are indirectly partnering up with the manufacturer.

Customer service is key and you get a lot of it with our Business Elite programs. When you’re off to buy a fleet, you get treated as a high-priority customer. It means that you’re not only dealt with first, you’re also offered special ‘priority hours’, and better vehicle financing options.

The vehicles that you’ll purchase will be work-ready and you can get towing facilities as well.

Allowances

One of the many benefits include allowances. This means that you will be able to save money while purchasing GM vehicles. You may also be eligible for cash allowances on some upfits. These can be super helpful for your day-to-day business needs.

GMC are the go-to company if this is what you need. You can get upfit allowances for products related to towing/hauling, racks, lighting, steps, and much more. Paying for these upgrades can set you back in thousands. This is why you should pick a Business Elite fleet program and be done with it!

Telematics

Telematics are of considerable importance in today’s age. It’s important to know exactly what employees are doing with vehicles and where they are. GM will provide you with OnStar Vehicle Insights, a tool that will help you manage your fleet better. It will give you all the insights needed.

Having proper telematics software will help optimize your business in terms of time and money.

Tax Benefits

Many are unaware that buying a fleet of vehicles saves you tax money. This is because the US government gives tax incentives if you buy a bulk of cars.

For smaller vehicles, this amount is limited and can go up to around $18,100. These include sedans, coupes, sports cars, small SUVs and crossovers. But if you buy a fleet of larger vehicles (pickup trucks, SUVs, vans, etc); you can get up to a 100 percent tax write off!

Understanding Requirements

The problem business owners often have is that they’re unsure of what they want. Or more importantly, they’re confused with what they actually need. This can lead to them not picking the right options or picking too many unnecessary ones.

This is why you need to work with proper sales consultants. That will help you pick out the right set of vehicles and the most helpful selection of options on them. This saves you money and time. Good consultation goes hand-in-hand with the Business Elite experience.
